Our story

Trapeze is a 5 Star Halliday-rated Winery in Victoria's Yarra Valley. Balancing precision, passion and experience, winemaker Brian Conway and viticulturist Malcolm Wiley craft highly respected wines that honour the unique terroir of their surrounds.

The Trapeze journey

Since 2011, Trapeze has produced exceptional, finely crafted wines that exemplify balance. A deep commitment to precision throughout the winemaking process is reflected in a dedicated consumer following and highly respected industry recognition.

Winemaker Brian Conway brings over 25 years of experience from renowned regions, including Beaujolais, Alsace, Sonoma County, the Barossa Valley and Margaret River, to Trapeze in the Yarra Valley.

Chardonnay occupies a special place in Brian’s story—steeped in memories of his father, who introduced him to the exceptional Chardonnay wines of Meursault. Brian reflects, “Under Malcolm Wiley’s care, the Six J’s vineyard at Steels Creek offers the perfect site to honour this style of winemaking”.

The name ‘Trapeze’ was chosen to reflect the art of balance (and because the wine game can be a bit of a circus, really!). Making Pinot Noir is also notoriously difficult, and Brian was keen to take on the challenge of producing a perfectly balanced wine. As Brian puts it

On a trapeze, balance is vital. It’s the same with wine.

After a hiatus, Trapeze re-emerged in 2022 with a renewed focus and a new partnership with viticulturist Malcolm Wiley. The pair have since expanded the range of varietals produced, with their wines receiving highly respected industry recognition and reviews.

Balance through the years

2011

Trapeze Wines was founded, with its inaugural vintage crafted during one of the most challenging years on record. Against the odds, the wines sold out, paving the way for future success.

2015

The brand paused as Brian focused on building a solar-powered, off-grid cellar in the Barossa Valley.

2021

Trapeze returned to the Yarra Valley, revitalised and reimagined.

Halliday Wine Companion

Recognition from the Halliday Wine Companion cemented Trapeze as a standout in the Australian wine industry.

2025

Plans are underway to open a cellar door and on-siteevent facilities in Steels Creek.

Trapeze Wines is a story of challenges embraced, milestones achieved, and wines crafted to reflectbalance and place.
