Another Five stars for Trapeze
Five stars. A 96+ point Chardonnay. A 96 point Pinot Noir. Another Pinot Noir awarded 94 points.
We’re pretty happy with that.
Trapeze is officially a 5 Star Halliday-rated Yarra Valley winery, with three of our 2025 releases receiving standout reviews from Halliday Wine Companion’s Philip Rich.
It’s particularly exciting for Brian and Malcolm. Trapeze returned to the Yarra Valley in 2021, with Malcolm joining Brian as co-owner in 2024. Since then, the focus has been simple: work with great sites, give the fruit the attention it deserves and make honest wines with balance.
After being named a finalist for Dark Horse Winery of the Year in the 2026 Halliday Wine Companion Awards, these latest results feel like another pretty great step forward.
2025 Trapezium Chardonnay
96+ points
Sourced from the Willow Lake vineyard in Gladysdale, the 2025 Trapezium Chardonnay leads the new reviews with an impressive 96+ points.
Philip Rich found white peach, nectarine and elderflower alongside a subtle hint of fresh vanilla. The palate was praised for being mouth-filling yet taut, continuing to build before reaching a long, saline finish.
Described as “an outstanding wine”, it is drinking beautifully now and has the structure to reward another four to six years in the cellar.

2025 Trapeze Six Js Vineyard Pinot Noir
96 points
The Six Js Vineyard Pinot Noir comes from a single vineyard in Steels Creek planted in 1992. Lower yields in 2025 brought an extra level of concentration to the fruit, without losing the balance and finesse we want from the site.
Philip Rich noted poached strawberry, warm spice and rosebush across a gently textured, medium-bodied palate. He found the finish long and satisfying, calling it a lovely wine with the potential to age gracefully over the next six to eight years.
Not a bad result for a vineyard Brian and Malcolm have spent a considerable amount of time fussing over.

2025 Trapeze Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
94 points
Our 2025 Yarra Valley Pinot Noir was awarded 94 points, with the vintage bringing a little more richness while retaining Trapeze’s trademark finesse and fine-boned structure.
Red fruits, subtle spice and rose lead into a silky, structured palate. It’s delicious to drink now, though Philip Rich expects it to continue developing over the next four to six years.

Finding the balance
Scores and stars are lovely. More importantly, this recognition tells us the work being done in the vineyard and winery is heading in the right direction.
Brian has always said, “On a trapeze, balance is vital. It’s the same with wine.” That remains the idea behind every bottle: carefully grown Yarra Valley fruit, handled with precision and made into wines that speak clearly of their site.
Five stars feels pretty good, though.
